About Me (Edward T. Novak, LPCC)

I am a certified psychoanalyst, having trained in contemporary psychoanalysis at The National Institute for the Psychotherapies in New York City.

I earned my bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and my master’s degree from the University of Akron. A Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor in the state of Ohio, I have over 30 years of experience working with individuals, groups, adults, adolescents, couples and families. I have training and experience in a wide range of therapy approaches including psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, counseling, and body psychotherapy.

Currently, in private practice my patients are generally self-referred with issues related to depression, anxiety, abuse, trauma, sexual issues and relationship difficulties.

I have a special interest in working with trauma and abuse issues (e.g., physical, sexual and emotional abuse). My treatment approach is based up the most current research and writings on trauma and abuse and the ways both mind and body are impacted by trauma. This approach integrates neuroscience, attachment research, cognitive science, body psychotherapy, transactional analysis and psychoanalysis into a comprehensive treatment approach for trauma and abuse survivors.

I am a published author writing on a variety mental health issues. These are listed in my published works section. I have been a member of the Editorial Review Board for the Transactional Analysis Journal from 2009 to the present. I am also the book review editor for the same journal.
